Banitsa with Dried Fruit, Jam and Walnuts
A sweet rolled filo banitsa filled with walnuts, plum jam, candied orange peel and raisins, finished with sugar syrup.
Ingredients
| 1 pack | filo pastry sheets | |
| 1 cup | 240 ml | chopped walnuts |
| 100 g | plum jam (about half a baby jar) | |
| 100 g | candied orange peel | |
| 100 g | raisins | |
| 1 small | rum essence | |
| 100 g | vegetable fat, or 1 pack of butter (125 g) if not fasting |
Instructions
All the filling ingredients are mixed together in a common bowl. The banitsa is rolled in the following way. Take a filo sheet and cut it lengthwise. Fold each of the resulting halves lengthwise into three, so as to get one long strip. At its start place 1 spoonful of the mixture and roll it into a triangle. Arrange them in a small tray that you have greased in advance with oil. Grease the little banitsas on top with oil as well. The banitsa is baked in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for about 30 minutes. After you take the little banitsas out, brush them with sugar syrup that you have prepared by dissolving 3 tbsp of sugar in a little water.
