
Beer Batter
A crispy, light and versatile beer batter made from pantry staples like cornflour and beer — perfect for coating fish before frying.
Ingredients
| 375 ml | beer, cold | |
| 1/4 cup | 60 ml | cornflour |
| 1/2 cup | 120 ml | plain flour |
| 1/2 cup | 120 ml | self-raising flour |
| 1/2 tsp | 2.5 ml | pepper |
| 1/2 tsp | 2.5 ml | sea salt |
Instructions
- Sift all the dry ingredients together.
- Add enough cold beer to achieve a batter consistency.
- Mix together with a hand whisk.
- Let the batter stand for approximately 10 minutes.
- Dip flour-dusted fish fillets into the batter, then straight into hot oil to fry.
