Brahmi Tambli – An Ancient Recipe for Health and Wellbeing

Ingredients

1 cup240 mlbrahmi leaves with roots, thoroughly washed and chopped
1/2 cup120 mlgrated fresh coconut
1/2 cup120 mlyogurt
1 tbsp15 mlcumin seeds
1 tbsp15 mljaggery
1 1/2 cup360 mlwater
sea salt to taste
ice cubes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Put the cumin seeds, brahmi leaves, and coconut in a blender and grind it to a smooth paste. Add 1/2 cup of water to this paste and pass it through a fine sieve into a large bowl.
  2. Put the pulp left in the sieve back into the blender, add the yogurt and the rest of the water. Pulse them a couple more times, until the yogurt becomes really smooth and blends with the other ingredients in the blender.
  3. Pass this mix through the sieve again into the same bowl used earlier. Add the jaggery and salt, stir until well combined. Add the ice cubes if using.

Serves two, best served fresh and chilled.

Note: You can increase the jaggery quantity if you like your smoothies to be sweet. As written, the recipe calls for minimum sweetness. You can also increase or decrease the water quantity depending on your preferred smoothie thickness. You may use coconut milk as a replacement for fresh grated coconut — use half the quantity of the grated coconut.
