Deep-Fried Mars Bars
The famous Scottish chip-shop treat: a Mars bar in crisp batter, fried until golden and molten inside.
Ingredients
| 2 | Mars bars | |
| 1/2 cup | 120 ml | plain flour |
| 10 tbsp | 150 ml | water |
| 1 pinch | salt | |
| 1 cup | 240 ml | vegetable oil, for frying |
Instructions
- Mix together a batter with the flour, water and salt.
- The mixture should be runny with no bubbles or lumps.
- Place a small saucepan on the stove and pour in enough oil to just cover the Mars bars.
- Heat at a low temperature. Drop in a little pinch of batter; if it rises, bubbles and browns, the oil is ready.
- Using tongs, dip the Mars bars into the batter, covering the entire bar.
- Place in the saucepan and shallow-fry for 1 minute, or until crunchy and golden.
- Remove and place on a plate lined with paper towel so excess oil can be soaked up.
