Dill (plant care)
Ingredients
Instructions
It originates from Asia and the Mediterranean. It forms columnar roots 15-20 cm deep, which is why transplanting even young plants can be problematic. To avoid problems when transplanting dill, do it while the plant is less than 15 cm tall. Dill reaches a height of 1 meter. The leaves are fine and feathery and very aromatic. It flowers with small yellow flowers in July and August. It is suitable for any kitchen balcony.
Situation: The ideal place for growing dill is a sunny to semi-shady spot. It does not like drafts, so choose a spot sheltered from the wind.
Watering: Watering should be moderate, and you should never allow the soil substrate to dry out completely. Water retention is also undesirable. Therefore make good drainage in the container where you will grow dill. It is not fertilized.
Care: You can sow the seeds directly in the soil in April. The container should be at least 20 cm deep because of the deep roots dill develops. The soil substrate is clay-humus garden soil and sand in equal proportions. You can pick the aromatic leaves constantly, and the seeds are collected in August/September. The most serious pest problems you may have are with aphids.
Propagation: By seed in April - May at temperatures above 8 degrees. The seeds are covered with a thin layer of soil. As mentioned above, the container must be at least 20 cm deep. The young sprouted plants should be thinned out at the first opportunity to avoid root problems at a later stage.
Gardener's tip: Sow dill among other plants.
