Five-Spice Wok-Roasted Pork
This is a great way to prepare a pork roast. Using the wok allows the pork to marinate while it's roasting, keeping the meat very moist and tender. Although this recipe calls for loin roast, pork shoulder or beef brisket can be used with good results.
⏱️ Prep: 10 min🍳 Cook: 60 min
Ingredients
| 1/2 cup | 120 ml | honey |
| 1/4 cup | 60 ml | soy sauce |
| 1/4 cup | 60 ml | ketchup |
| 1/4 cup | 60 ml | rice wine |
| 2 tablespoons | 30 ml | Chinese five-spice powder |
| 2 tablespoons | 30 ml | fresh ginger, crushed and chopped |
| 1 tablespoon | 15 ml | hot sesame oil |
| 3 | garlic cloves, crushed and chopped | |
| 1 (2- to 3-pound) | pork loin roast | |
| — | rice and vegetables, for serving |
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, ketchup, rice wine, five-spice powder, ginger, sesame oil, and garlic.
- In wok or oven-safe bowl, rub the pork all over with the marinade.
- Roast the pork in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Turn the pork over and roast for 20 minutes more. Turn the pork over again and roast for a final 20 minutes, or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the meat registers 145°F.
- Let the pork rest for 3 minutes. Slice and serve with rice and vegetables. Troubleshooting: Decreasing the heat by 100°F and cooking the pork for twice as long will result in more tenderness. Just remember to turn the meat over every 20 minutes.
