Forget-me-not (plant care)

The forget-me-not is a hardy plant that is cultivated as a biennial. With its compact growth and abundant branching it reaches a height of 15-25 cm depending on the variety, and it has soft leaves with short hairs.

Well-known varieties: "Blue Basket" (dark blue with large flowers, 25 cm), "Indigo" and "Blue Bouquet" (dark blue, 30 cm), "Blue Ball" (glowing blue, 15 cm, rounded and closed growth).

Flowering period: May to July. Origin: Europe, Asia Minor, Central Asia, Northwest Africa. Situation: Bright, semi-shady to shady. Substrate: Optimal soil, TKS 2, potting soil for balcony flowers. Planting: Ready-bought or self-grown young plants (-> Propagation) are planted 15 cm apart. Watering, feeding: Keep evenly moist but not wet, and do not fertilize. Forget-me-nots are woodland plants! Other care: None. Overwintering: Not necessary for bought plants. Young plants overwinter in a bright, frost-free place. Indoors it is not needed, but outdoors provide winter protection with pine branches. Pests, diseases: Grey mould, true powdery mildew, aphids. Propagation: By seed in July at a soil temperature of 18 C. After 4 weeks prick out into separate pots.
