Grandma's Apple Banitsa
Grandma's homey apple banitsa, written out as a note - filo sheets rolled with grated apple, sugar and walnuts (and cinnamon, if you like).
Ingredients
| 1 | packet of filo sheets |
| 1 голяма или 1,5-2 средни на кора | apples, peeled and grated |
| 1 лъжица на кора | sugar |
| около една стиска, на вкус | walnuts |
| малко | fat/oil (for sprinkling) |
| малко | cinnamon (optional) |
Instructions
You grind your walnuts with the chopper.
You peel, cut and grate the apples.
On one sheet you put one large apple or 1.5 to 2 medium apples, grated and squeezed to remove the juice.
You open the packet of sheets and, as they are one on top of the other, you sprinkle over 1 spoon of sugar (your spoons are big, that's why), walnuts to taste, about a handful, lightly sprinkle over some fat and the grated, drained apple.
I also add cinnamon, but you don't eat it, so I'm not telling you about it. Otherwise, a little of it is sprinkled on top too.
You take two sheets at a time, roll them into a coil in the round tray and bake.
And with your father's sheets it's 2 spoons of sugar, a little more walnuts and another half a drained apple - they are big sheets, that's why. You roll those, if you like, each separately into a ring (kravai) and bake them on baking paper on the stove-top tray.
Although today I rolled mine like another banitsa and it still turned out.
