Korean BBQ Ribs on Coke

Flanken-cut short ribs marinated in a soy-Coca-Cola glaze, then grilled and topped with green onion and sesame.

Ingredients

¼ cup60 mlsoy sauce (regular or low sodium)
¼ cup60 mlCoca-Cola soda
3 tbsp45 mlbrown sugar, packed
2 clovesgarlic, finely minced
½apple pear (Asian pear), grated
1 tbsp15 mltoasted sesame oil
2 lb905 gflanken-cut short ribs
2green onions, very finely sliced on an angle
1 tbsp15 mltoasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Combine the soy sauce, Coke, brown sugar, garlic, apple pear and sesame oil in a large bowl. Using a whisk or fork, stir all the ingredients until the sugar is dissolved and the garlic is evenly distributed.
  2. Add the short ribs and massage the marinade into the beef. Cover and allow the short ribs to marinate for 1 to 4 hours.
  3. Heat a grill or pan to high for at least 5 minutes. If using a charcoal or gas grill, wipe the grates down with a lightly oiled towel right before cooking to clean off any char and debris. This gives a great grill mark and helps keep the beef from sticking.
  4. Pat any marinade off the short ribs and grill for about 4 minutes on each side, or until desired doneness. Remove from the grill and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
