Ingredients
Instructions
Lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis) is a genus of perennial flowering plants of the family Ruscaceae, with natural habitats in the moist, semi-shady valleys of Europe and Asia. It flowers in spring (April - May) with delicate, fragrant white bell-shaped flowers borne on a 15-20 cm tall flower stalk. Lily of the valley is winter-hardy for our climate, and in autumn its leaves dry off.
Situation: Places suitable for growing these flowers should be semi-shady, with relatively high humidity. They are ideal for flowering the spaces under trees and shrubs in the garden.
Care: The soil substrate should have good air and water permeability, while also being rich in nutrients. In spring it is good to fertilize with well-rotted manure. Watering in summer is abundant.
Propagation: By division of the rhizomes in autumn after the leaves have dried. The rhizomes are stored in a dark, cool place over winter and planted in the flower beds in spring. Dig holes 15 x 15 cm. Spread a few centimeters of peat on the bottom, place the rhizome and cover with about 10 cm of sandy soil. Provide a spacing of at least 10-15 cm between plants.
Gardener's tip: Replant the plants every 4-5 years.
