Rosettes
Delicate, lacy fried cookies made with a rosette iron and dusted with sugar for a crisp, festive treat.

Ingredients
| 1 pound | 455 g | lard |
| 1 | egg | |
| 1/2 cup | 120 ml | flour |
| 1 tablespoon | 15 ml | sugar |
| 1/2 teaspoon | 2.5 ml | salt |
| 1/2 cup | 120 ml | milk, at room temperature |
| 1 tablespoon | 15 ml | salad oil |
Instructions
- Heat the lard to 400°F (205°C) in a large saucepan.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the egg slightly.
- Add the remaining ingredients to the egg and beat until smooth.
- Heat the rosette iron in the hot lard.
- Dip the iron into the batter until approximately 2/3 full.
- Place the battered iron into the hot lard and fry until golden brown.
- Scoop out the rosettes and lay them on paper towels to drain and cool.
- Sprinkle with granulated or powdered sugar.
