Fruit Jelly Candies

Homemade fruit jelly candies made from strawberries and kiwi with brown sugar and gelatin, set in ice-cube molds. A fun recipe to make with a helper.

Ingredients

2 cups480 mlstrawberries
2kiwi
4 tbsp60 mlbrown sugar
8 tbsp120 mlgelatin

Instructions

You will need: two kinds of fruit – we chose kiwi and strawberries because we think they go together perfectly, but you can use others; the important thing is that they are juicy so there is juice (2 cups of strawberries and 2 kiwis were more than enough), 4 tablespoons brown sugar, 8 tablespoons gelatin, an ice-cube mold (if you have a more interesting one, like hearts, even better, but a plain one works great too), a pot, a spoon and a bowl.

  1. The first and very important step is to clean the strawberries of their leaves and of course wash them, as well as to peel the kiwis. To make it faster and trouble-free, our tip is for you to take on the strawberries and your helper the kiwi.
  2. Then, like a real head chef, you just give instructions for a while. The two kiwis, which of course should be cut in halves, go into the bowl together with the strawberries and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. Then mash everything very well until it becomes a puree. But only with a fork! It should release juice; once that happens, if the helper wants, they can mash it further with a hand blender or whatever else is available.
  3. Then the fruit puree must be passed through a sieve, so the juice goes straight into the pot and the pulp of kiwi and strawberries stays in the bowl.
  4. Add the remaining brown sugar to the juice and put it on the stove to heat, but without boiling. Add the gelatin and stir continuously until it dissolves. This can take up to 5 minutes.
  5. While the assistant cook does this, you prepare the mold. With a spoon, put a little fruit puree at the bottom, doing this in all the molds. Then your friend pours in the juice-and-gelatin mixture into the molds. Let it cool and put it in the refrigerator to set; in about an hour or two it should be ready. Then simply take the candies out of the mold and they are ready to eat.

It may not sound like it, but preparing the jelly candies takes only about 10 minutes. Also, these candies are not suitable only for spring and summer. You can make them all year round; you just need fruit — even with frozen fruit the taste is still excellent.

If you're wondering what to do with the leftover fruit puree, here's an idea: pour in a little fresh milk, a few spoons of honey and stir – it makes a perfect fruit shake!
