
Original Coney Island Sauce
The classic American Coney Island hot dog sauce, spooned over hot dogs in buns.
Ingredients
| 1 1/2 pound | 680 g | ground beef |
| 2 tablespoons | 30 ml | vegetable shortening |
| 2 tablespoons | 30 ml | margarine |
| 1 teaspoon | 5 ml | garlic powder |
| 1/4 teaspoon | 1.3 ml | black pepper |
| 2 tablespoons | 30 ml | chili powder |
| 2 tablespoons | 30 ml | dry mustard |
| 2 tablespoons | 30 ml | dried minced onions |
| 3 ounces | 85 g | tomato puree |
| 3/4 cup | 180 ml | water |
Instructions
- Combine the ground beef, shortening, and margarine in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is cooked.
- Stir in the remaining ingredients and reduce the heat to low. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.
- Spoon the warm sauce over hot dogs in buns.
