Spicy Hoisin Pork

The thick hoisin sauce in this dish gives it a rich, slightly sweet and pungent flavor. Hot sesame oil adds a little spice. 30 minutes or less.

Ingredients

1 pound455 gSouthern-style boneless pork ribs, cut into 1/4-inch strips
3 tablespoons45 mlrice wine
1 tablespoon15 mlcornstarch
2 tablespoons30 mlavocado oil
1medium carrot, roll cut into 1/2-inch pieces
3garlic cloves, crushed and chopped
1 tablespoon15 mlfresh ginger, crushed and chopped
1medium red onion, diced into 1/2-inch pieces
1red bell pepper, diced into 1/2-inch pieces
3 tablespoons45 mlsoy sauce
3 tablespoons45 mlhoisin sauce
1 teaspoon5 mlhot sesame oil
1 bunch (6 to 8)scallions, cut into 1-inch pieces
steamed rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions

  1. Seal the pork, rice wine, and cornstarch in a large zip-top bag. Massage for 2 minutes.
  2. In a wok or large cast iron skillet, heat the oil over high heat until it shimmers. Add the carrot, garlic, and ginger and stir-fry for 1 minute. Add the onion and stir-fry for 1 minute. Add the marinated pork and stir-fry for 1 minute. Add the bell pepper and stir-fry for 1 minute.
  3. Add the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil and stir for about 2 minutes, until a glaze forms.
  4. Stir in the scallions and serve over steamed rice. Heat check: Use more or less hot oil to regulate the spiciness.
