Strawberry Nutella French Toast Roll Ups
Soft white bread rolled with Nutella and fresh strawberries, dipped in an egg custard, pan-fried and rolled in sugar.
Ingredients
| 8 slices | soft white bread | |
| ⅓ cup | 80 ml | Nutella |
| 1 cup | 240 ml | fresh strawberries, diced small |
| 4 tablespoons | 60 ml | granulated sugar |
| 3 tablespoons | 45 ml | unsalted butter, melted |
| 2 | eggs (egg mixture) | |
| 3 tablespoon | 45 ml | milk (egg mixture) |
| pinch | salt (egg mixture) | |
| — | chocolate syrup |
Instructions
For egg mixture:
- In a bowl with a flat base big enough to lie the roll up in, combine eggs, milk and a pinch of salt, whisk and set aside.
- In a small dish spread the sugar out, set aside.
- Trim the crusts from the bread.
- Flatten the bread with a rolling pin — this makes them easier to roll up.
- Spread each piece of bread with about 1 teaspoon Nutella.
- Sprinkle strawberries along the bottom of each piece of bread.
- Roll up the bread.
- Melt butter in a pan over medium-high heat.
- Dip each roll up into the egg mixture and then place in the pan.
- Repeat for the remaining roll ups.
- Cook for around 3–4 minutes until each side is golden brown, rotating the roll ups every 1 minute or so.
- Remove from the pan and immediately place in the sugar.
- Roll the baked roll ups in sugar to coat them well.
- Repeat with the remaining roll ups.
- Drizzle with chocolate syrup if desired.
- Serve warm.
